About Jordan Rabinowitz

Jordan Rabinowitz has been interested in weather since he was about 5 years old. He would watch The Weather Channel and local news channel forecasts all the time and especially when a big storm was getting ready to enter the area. Jordan lives in East Meadow, NY, and he graduated from East Meadow High School in June 2009. He now attends SUNY Oswego in Oswego, NY, working toward his degree in meteorology with a minor in math. Oswego is located about 40 miles north of Syracuse, right on the coast of Lake Ontario. Being a snow-lover, this is a perfect spot for Jordan to study weather because Oswego receives over 120 inches of lake effect snow in a typical winter.

Jordan is scheduled to graduate in 2014. After he receives his bachelor's degree in meteorology, he plans on going into cooperative research in the sub-field of hurricanes or winter storms depending on where there are opportunities for those aforementioned areas of study. Jordan already has experience in forecasting because he got to do a 3-day internship with the National Weather Service in Upton, NY during his senior year of high school. He also visited the weather studio with Bill Korbel, a broadcast meteorologist at the News 12 station on Long Island.

As of October 2011, Jordan has been an assistant forecaster for SUNY Oswego's Lake Effect Storm Prediction and Research Center (LESPaRC). He assists in weekly forecast discussions for schools in the southeastern / eastern Lake Ontario region.

Jordan loves the beautiful sunshine and warm weather in the spring and summer when he embraces his love for fishing and kayaking near his hometown of East Meadow, not being too far from the south shore of Long Island. His favorite New York sports team is the Yankees, and he loves attending Yankees games with his dad. Jordan also loves working out at the gym. However, his favorite vacation spot is the south shore, specifically spending a day on the beaches or fishing just offshore.
