February 9th, 2011 Forecast

Tonight: Lake effect snow continues across Central New York in the evening before moving north after 10 PM. By daybreak Wednesday, the snow will be located east and northeast of Lake Ontario. An additional 2 to 6 inches of snow is likely overnight. Lows will drop to around 7 degrees in Syracuse but down to near 0 degrees in the Catskill Mountains where skies will be mostly clear. West winds will shift from the southwest overnight 15 to 25 mph, pushing the snow bands northward. The chance of snow tonight is about 70 percent. The sunset this evening is at 5:25 PM.

Wednesday: For Central New York, expect a mix of sun and clouds with a 20 percent of flurries. Lake effect snow will continue east of Lake Ontario, and it will become heavy at night dumping another 12 to 24 inches of snow in those areas overnight. The high will be near 22 degrees. Southwest winds will shift from the west 10 to 20 mph, placing the snow bands directly east of Lake Ontario.

Thursday: For Central New York, look for a mix of sun and clouds with a 30 percent chance of scattered flurries. Heavy lake effect snow will continue east of Lake Ontario. It will be colder with a high only around 19 degrees

Friday: Partly sunny with increasing clouds late in the day. Lake effect snow showers will continue northeast of Lake Ontario. The high will be near 25 degrees. A warming trend is possible by the end of next week with highs in the mid-40s. Was Punxsutawney Phil correct about an early spring ?
