March 7th, 2012 Forecast

These winter-like temperatures will gradually be coming to an end as a strong 1039 mb high centered over Virginia pushes eastward off the coast and sets up a south-southwesterly flow over Central New York for Wednesday and Thursday. A weak low pressure system traveling southeast across Ontario will bring us some showers Thursday afternoon and Thursday night. As this low moves northeastward toward Nova Scotia during the day on Friday, rain showers will change to a few leftover snow showers as temperatures drop to more seasonable levels for early March.

Tonight: Clearing skies and cool. Lows will drop into the lower 30s for most locations. Winds will be out of the south at 10 to 20 mph, keeping temperatures much warmer than last night. The sunset this evening is at 6:00 PM.

Wednesday: Sunny and warm, but breezy. The record high for Syracuse is 64 degrees, set back in 1973, and this record has a good chance of being broken. The high will be near 65 degrees. Winds will be out of the south-southwest at 10 to 20 mph.

Thursday: Sun to clouds and mild. There is a 60 percent chance of showers in the afternoon. High near 60 degrees.

Friday: Cooler with a 20 percent chance of a few leftover snow showers as the low departs. High near 40 degrees.
