August 17th, 2010 Forecast

Many of us saw some strong thunderstorms move through early this morning, and the southern tier and Catskill Mountains saw strong storms around midday as well. Severe thunderstorm watches and warnings were issued all across Central New York up until the early afternoon. Skies are now clearing and humidity is dropping as a cold front works through. Tonight will be much more comfortable for sleeping, and Tuesday is looking like a beautiful day with low humidity and a nice breeze out of the southwest and west.

Tonight: Skies should be mostly clear with some patchy fog forming overnight. It will be much cooler than last night as low temperatures drop into the 50s almost everywhere except near the Lake Ontario shore where it will hold in the mid-60s. West winds will become southwest overnight at 5 to 15 mph. The sunset tonight is at 8:06 PM.

Tuesday: A few clouds with just a 20 percent chance of an isolated shower to the far north. It will be breezy as winds gust near 25 mph out of the southwest in the morning, becoming west in the afternoon. High temperatures will range from 80 degrees at the Lake Ontario shore to 83 degrees in the southern tier.

Wednesday: A mix of sun and clouds with a 30 percent chance of a shower at night. The high temperature will be around 82 degrees.

Thursday: There is a 30 percent chance of a few showers. Otherwise, look for breaks of hazy sun. The high temperature will be near 82 degrees once again.

Tuesday Planner
