A very strong upper level trough along with a strong surface cold front currently giving much of the Midwest some early severe weather will progress eastward throughout the rest of the week. Surface low pressure associated with this cold front will move over the Great Lakes region overnight tonight and will be just to our northwest Wednesday morning. Ahead of this cold front, very mild air will briefly settle over the area, and will allow temperatures to reach near 60 (Syracuse's record high is 54). However, rain showers, and even some thunderstorms will accompany the front's passage during the evening Wednesday. Expect some flooding as rainfall amounts could easily reach an inch in some places and snow melts.
Behind the front, we will return to more seasonable temperatures, along with the threat of snow showers, and there could be some heavy lake effect snow showers especially east and southeast of Lake Ontario (Lake Effect Snow Watches are already in place for Thursday and Friday for the counties east of Lake Ontario). Another low pressure will approach for the weekend with some more snow showers.
