August 7th and 8th, 2010 Forecast

Now: It is a much more comfortable day than Thursday as dew points have been falling all day long. Temperatures in the mid-70s combined with dew points near 50 degrees and a nice breeze out of the northwest are making it feel a bit cool for an August afternoon. There is a slight chance of a brief shower into this evening, but many of us will remain dry.

Tonight: There is a 20 percent chance of a brief shower until around midnight, but most places will not see it. Look for partly cloudy skies overnight, but temperatures will be dropping to near record levels by Saturday morning with some places even breaking the record low. The record low in Syracuse for Saturday is 48 degrees, set back in 1948. Immediate Central New York should hold in the lower 50s, but outlying areas could easily drop into the upper 40s approaching this record low. Either way, it is going to be a chilly night across the area. West-northwest winds will diminish to 5 to 10 mph.

Saturday: A cool start with a pleasant finish. Temperatures should top out in the mid-70s in most locations...cooler to the north and along the Lake Ontario shore. Look for bright sun with just a few pop-up cumulus clouds. Winds will be from the west at 5 to 15 mph. Saturday night will be another chilly night as temperatures fall into the lower 50s in Central New York with upper 40s in the outlying areas. The record low in Syracuse for Sunday is 49 degrees, set back in 1903.

Sunday: Turning warmer under a mix of sun and clouds. High temperatures will be in the lower to mid-80s just about everywhere making it feel much more like August. Winds shift from the south and southwest at 5 to 10 mph.
