December 22nd and 23rd, 2012 Forecast

Forecast Discussion: The powerful storm which completely blanketed the Midwest over the last few days will be departing our area overnight tonight. In doing so, this will set the stage for a formidable lake-effect snow event to get underway from late tonight and likely not ending until late Sunday or early Monday morning. New snowfall accumulations could likely range anywhere from a few inches to well over a foot of snow depending on your location. There is the potential for locally heavy snowfall leading to whiteout conditions in the most intense bands that develop south and east of Lake Ontario. Through this period, temperatures will remain well below average with highs in the mid to upper 20's and lows in the upper teens to lower 20's. Looking beyond the weekend, it seems that a White Christmas will be in the cards for our area as we will also be seeing snow during Christmas Day as a weak area of low pressure brings a chance for additional snowfall on top of the lake-effect. Further down the road, things seem to remain unsettled towards the middle and latter part of next week. Stay tuned for updates through the week as we get closer to Christmas and beyond! Happy Holidays from all of us here at cnyweather.blogspot.com! :)
